Minutes from the SVA Meeting held February 3, 2016

Meeting began at 1:34pm.

  • Old SVA Business:
    • Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed. 
    • Vice President/PAO Vacancy
      • Nominations due today
      • Election held at next meeting: Wednesday, Feb 17th @1:30pm. 
  • Message from the Veteran Services Office:
    • Dell Veteran Pricing Special Sale Feb 8-10. 
    • UTD Special Program Announcement: BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) with Risk Management and Insurance Concentration
      • The program director has indicated that Veterans are highly sought after in the RMI profession. Less than 30% of the jobs openings in this field have anything to do with sales. There are many misconceptions about RMI that get in the way of people pursuing this stable and lucrative career field.
      • RMI has pay commensurate with a high profile career. Follow this link for an article about the pending employment crisis in RMI (meaning not enough qualified people to fill the jobs.

        • SVA will be distributing a survey to begin gathering data on the Veteran experience. 
          • Survey can found here until Feb 17th.
        • We should take opportunities to get noticed by the Brookhaven Courier by emailing them about upcoming SVA events. They are actively looking for News Tips, Stories and Events. 
          • The Courier used to do a Veteran Spotlight section but it was written by a veteran student and since that student has left, it was never continued.
